A policeman, Cosmas Ugwu, was shot and killed by his girlfriend, Amanda Uchechi Ugo, in Imo State.

The incident happened around 6:30 pm on Boxing Day at the Ezinihitte Area Command.

According to sources, officers nearby heard gunshots from Ugwu’s room and found him critically injured when they rushed in.

He was shot three times in the chest and left hand by his girlfriend during a serious argument.

Ugwu was taken to Evergreen Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. It’s unclear what caused the fight, but the girl managed to use the policeman’s rifle to shoot him.

Ugwu’s body is at the Obizi mortuary while investigations continue. The girlfriend is in police custody for questioning and possible prosecution.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and assured ongoing efforts to understand what happened.
