Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared a three-day mourning period in honor of the late Rotimi Akeredolu, his predecessor, who lost his battle with prostate cancer.

The announcement was made through a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, in Akure on Wednesday.

Akeredolu’s passing occurred earlier on Wednesday, prompting Aiyedatiwa to declare a mourning period starting from Thursday, December 28, to Saturday, December 30, 2023.

During this time, fasting and prayers will accompany the mourning.

Additionally, Governor Aiyedatiwa instructed that national flags be flown at half-mast across the state for seven days, signifying the somber mood.

State government ceremonies are also suspended throughout this mourning period.
